TaoTronics Ultrasonic Humidifier – Features
For the sake of convenience, we have decided the features of the TaoTronics into two parts: Key features and the good-but-not-great ones. Let’s start with the former.
- Microporous cartridge

In stark contrast to other cool mist humidifiers – which only have a Vick filter to remove water impurities – the TaoTronics relies on a microporous cartridge to filter calcium and magnesium ions as well as microorganisms. In this way, it won’t produce any of the white powder about whose bad effects the TIME Magazine warns us. Consequently, you can be sure with the TaoTronics that it would only provide a beneficial mist to your household.
- Controllable Humidity and Mist Direction
In addition to its microporous cartridge, controllable humidity is another feature which sets the TaoTronics apart from its cool-mist-producing colleagues. For, most cool mist humidifiers rely on their built-in mechanism to automatically adjust their humidity output without allowing your intervention. The TaoTronics, however, doesn’t work like that. It has a built-in humidistat which takes your input to set its humidity level. What’s more, it has a 360-degree rotatable nozzle which allows you to direct the moisture output to any area you might want.
- Ultra-quiet
When we talk to each other in normal voice, the level of sound we produce is close to 98 dB. Conversely, when the TaoTronics is in full swing, it only produces a noise level of 38 dB. That is, it produces almost three times less the noise that which we produce while talking to each other. It means whether you have an ailing elder at home who needs complete silence to fall asleep – or have a fussy baby who wakes up at the first hint of noise – the TaoTronics would suit you right.
- Timer
Imagine a scenario in which you tell your humidifier before leaving office to turn itself on so that when you reach home the home temperature is already comfortable? Well, we didn’t pick this scenario from thin air, instead, it is how the TaoTronics performs. Yes, thanks to its built-in timer, you could set timings at which this humidifier would turn on/off. If that wasn’t enough, its timer also lets you set the humidifier’s humidity level for anything between 1 and 24 hours.
• Auto Shutoff
While cool mist humidifiers do not get as hot as their warm-mist counterparts, there is still a chance that they might burn their motor if you run them on empty water tank. To save this ghastly scenario from materializing into reality, the auto shutoff feature is a godsend. For, the moment your humidifier’s level falls below safe level – which is determined by the manufacturer – auto shutoff will turn the TaoTronics off. And not until you fill the tank to capacity that it would allow you to turn on the humidifier again.
• LED
Display Since humidifiers operate out in the open, you might want them to complement the décor of your house. Thankfully, with its LED display, the TaoTronics Cool Mist Humidifier will do just that. Apart from showing features like the Timer and Mist level, the LED display also has a sleep mode. Activating this feature via the display will turn off the LED so that you could sleep in a pitch dark room with no light coming out of the humidifier.
• Tank Capacity and Runtime
Though not as impressive as that of Aircare MA1201 Humidifier – which boasts a runtime of 36 hours at the lowest setting – the 16 hr. runtime of the TaoTronics is also impressive. For, while the Aircare no doubt has a much better runtime, it did NOT have the features like the timer, LCD display and sleep mode of the TaoTronics. Turning our attention back to this model, and its 24 hours runtime means that it will only require one refill per day. Such an impressive runtime of this humidifier owes its existence to the 4 Liter tank capacity.
- Not Easy to Clean
During our research for this model, we encountered a user who had problems cleaning this unit. They were of the view that since the tank had so many parts – both moving and stationary – their hands weren’t able to clean the bottom half of the machine.
- No Essential Oils Option
Especially if you have patients at home suffering from asthma or allergies, doctors might have recommended a humidifier which allows the addition of essential oils in its water tank. Unfortunately, if that’s the case, you cannot use the TaoTronics as it doesn’t allow anything but water in its tank.
Therefore, if you are looking for a humidifier which won’t let you down – and is also safe to operate – the TaoTronics Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier deserves your attention.
